CUBA

I began to photograph in Cuba in 2016 continuing my interest in sides of buildings and the relationships between shapes, colours and line with a view to feeling and understanding the organization of abstraction as found in the descriptive elements of doors, windows and architectural details. Sometimes artifacts of culture occupy positions in these two-dimensional streetscapes. Eventually I began to include people in relation to the backdrop of their lives. My interest was not to portray the people as heroic, romanticized or idealized but rather to see them in solitude, contemplation, interaction and lack of interaction with others, and perhaps in their awareness of myself. They are who they are, fully human, and where they are in integral relation to the building background. They have been found, not staged.
